Ablatherm HIFU represents considerable progress in the treatment of localised prostate cancer. For patients who are the best candidates for therapy, favourable results are obtained at least as often as with the reference technique (over 92%). In addition, with Ablatherm HIFU, there is a considerable reduction in the risk of life-impacting side-effects (e.g. urinary incontinence, convalescence period, sexual problems, etc.).

Ablatherm HIFU provides the best results for patients who are diagnosed early with prostate cancer in the localised stage and for which the clinical parameters (notably the PSA rate and Gleason score) are compatible with the best indication for the treatment (see the "Ablatherm and you" section).

If you are interested in this type of treatment, talk to your urologist or call one of the Ablatherm HIFU centres near you (see the "Find a treatment center" section of this site).

Naturally, other treatments for prostate cancer are available. The reference treatment remain surgery, followed by radiotherapy, which means your surgeon may recommend treatment other than Ablatherm HIFU (which still represents the vast majority of cases). Surgery has saved countless lives, as have other techniques. Because Ablatherm HIFU is a relatively new technique, it is not yet widely used and few urologists are able to practice it. Therefore, your surgeon may recommend the technique he or she practices best, in which case it is up to you to accept your doctor's advice or seek out alternatives.
